World super-middleweight boxing champion Canelo Alvarez apologizes to Lionel Messi and the Argentine, after threatening the football superstar.

"The past few days, I have let my emotions and patriotism rule, so there have been inappropriate comments," Alvarez wrote on Twitter just before the final match of Group C of the World Cup 2022 on the evening of November 30. "So I want to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina. Every day that goes by we learn something new, and this time it's my turn. I wish both teams success today, and I will continue to cheer for you." Mexico to the end".

After Argentina beat Mexico 2-0 in the second round of Group C on November 26, a video went viral on social media of Messi stepping on Mexico's shirt on the floor of the dressing room. Canelo accused Messi of disrespecting Mexico, and wrote on Twitter: "Messi should pray to God I won't find him".

Messi's former teammates like Sergio Aguero or Cesc Fabregas have defended the Argentine captain. Aguero said: "Canelo, don't make excuses for failure. Obviously you don't know anything about football and what happens in the dressing room." And Fabregas explained that "Argentine or Mexican umbrellas, they are placed on the floor and then washed".

Canelo was not satisfied, even quoted Aguero's statement and cursed: "You too? Do you want to lean on Canelo again? Don't be hypocritical".

On November 29, Mexican captain Andres Guardado defended Messi's actions. He told TyC Sports: "I was fortunate and honored to have played against Messi for many years in Spain, and know him well. Unfortunately Canelo doesn't understand what happens in the dressing room, perhaps. that's why he reacted when he saw his Mexican shirt lying on the floor. But this little thing is not worth tearing up."

Canelo's wish was not complete, when Argentina won 2-0 Poland, and Mexico also defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 but could not continue. The two teams in Group C entering the round of 16 are Argentina and Poland, and Mexico must stop at the 2022 World Cup.

Canelo is the absolute world champion in the super middle class, from 73 kg to 76 kg. According to Boxrec, the 32-year-old boxer is the current number one boxer in the world based on performance. He played 62 matches, won 58, drew two and lost two. In the last match, he won the point of referee Gennady Golovkin to defend 5 super middle championships: WBA Super, WBO, IBF, WBC and The Ring, on the evening of September 17 in Las Vegas, USA.
