USASporting Kansas City striker Alan Pulido received a direct red card for headbutting Yerson Mosquera - the Wolves midfielder who is on loan with Cincinnati - in the Leagues Cup.

In the 30th minute, when Sporting Kansas was leading 2-0, Mosquera turned to the ball close to the touchline and was affected by Pulido. After falling, the Cincinnati midfielder pushed the Sporting Kansas City forward with his hand. Immediately, Pulido turns around and headbutts his opponent in the face.

The match turned chaotic. Alvas Powell and captain Luciano Acosta ran to the defense of Mosquera, and shouted at Pulido. Referee Daniel Quintero Huitron immediately ran to intervene and showed Pulido a red card.

This is the first leg of Group F Leagues Cup. The lack of players from the 30th minute caused Sporting Kansas to lose the game, allowing Cincinnati to equalize early in the second half thanks to a goal from Brandon Vazquez and a counter-kick from John Pulskamp.

In the 69th minute, 10th midfielder Gadi Katherine took a penalty to put Sporting Kansas ahead, but Cincinnati then equalized thanks to Luciano Acosta's eighth-minute offset. The match must be decided by penalty shootout. Here, Cincinnati won 4-2, because Walter and Fontas failed to kick the side of Sporting Kansas.

Lionel Messi's Inter Miami is also competing in the Leagues Cup. On July 21, the Argentine star scored a free kick in the fourth minute of injury time to set a 2-1 victory for Inter Miami. On the evening of July 25, Messi and his teammates will play the next match against Atlanta United.

The Leagues Cup is an annual tournament launched in 2019 between clubs from the American Professional Football League (MLS) and Mexico's Liga MX in North America. This year's tournament will take place from July 21 to August 19 with all 77 matches held in the US or Canada. The Leagues Cup is organized by the MLS and the Mexican Football Federation, and is ratified by the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Football (CONCACAF).

For the first time in history, the 2023 Leagues Cup will feature all of the MLS and Liga MX teams - a total of 47 teams, when both will be suspended. According to the format, the two finalists and the third-placed team won a place to attend the CONCACAF Champions Cup 2024, in which the champion will go directly to the 1/8 round.
