Morocco wins Brazil for the first time
Morocco maintains the same squad that attended the 2022 World Cup. In attack, Hakim Ziyech stands with Youssef En-Nesyri and Sofiane Boufal. In the midfield, Sofyan Amrabat is in charge of interception. Right-back Achraf Hakimi continues to start.
Brazil has some changes, including two rookies Rony and Andrey Santos. Santos is a midfielder and interim coach Ramon Menezes won the South American U20 Championship in February. However, in their main squad there are many stars like Vinicius, Rodrygo, Casemiro, or Eder Militao. The number three goalkeeper in the World Cup, Weverton started to replace Alisson. Coach Menezes did not call the Liverpool goalkeeper during this gathering.
The first half was even, but Brazil created more dangerous situations. In the 13th minute, Rony shot over the bar in the face of goalkeeper Bono. 12 minutes later, Bono had to save twice in a row in the box for Morocco. Vinicius put the ball in the net of Morocco in the 26th minute, but it was disallowed for offside.
Morocco creates fewer dangerous situations, but takes advantage of better opportunities. In the 29th minute, from a cross, Boufal turned and shot to open the score for the home team.
The first goal helped Morocco to improve morale clearly. After that, the home team continuously hit the ball, creating an exciting double attack with Brazil. But in the 67th minute, the visitors suddenly equalized thanks to Bono's mistake. The World Cup star let the ball slip under his arm after Casemiro's not-so-dangerous long-range shot.
Morocco still persists in attack after the goal. They got what they deserved from a wide attack after 79 minutes. After the ball bounced off Militao, Sabiri volleyed from eight yards to seal a 2-1 win.
Morocco won its first match in history against Brazil. Before that, they lost to the South American giant 0-2 in a friendly match in 1997 and 0-3 in the 1998 World Cup.
Morocco continues its impressive streak of achievements since mid-2022. At the 2002 World Cup, they reached the semi-finals after a 0-0 draw with Croatia, a 2-0 win over Belgium, 2-1 Canada in the group stage, and a defeat of Spain 3- 0 in the penalty shootout in the round of 16 and Portugal 1-0 in the quarterfinals. Also at this tournament, Brazil lost to Croatia 2-4 in the penalty shootout in the quarter-finals.
