Germany's Bayern Munich captain Thomas Muller said that the home team only had trouble when confronting Cristiano Ronaldo, when this player was still wearing the Real shirt.

"We always have good results against Messi, at all levels," said Thomas Muller after helping Bayern knock PSG out of the Champions League round of 16 on March 9. "At the club level, Cristiano Ronaldo was a real problem for Bayern when he was at Real."

Bayern beat Messi's Barca with a total score of 7-0 in the semi-finals of the Champions League 2012-2013 and won 8-2 in the quarter-finals of the Champions League 2019-2020 (only playing one match).

Messi also lost to Bayern in the last four meetings, and lost six of a total of nine times to represent the Bundesliga. He also lost to Muller's Germany team in two big matches, the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup and the final of the 2014 World Cup.

The last time Messi beat Bayern was the semi-final first leg of the 2014-2015 Champions League when Barca won 3-0 thanks to a brace from the Argentine superstar. It was also the last season Messi won the Champions League.

However, Muller appreciated Messi's feat in the 2022 World Cup. He said: "Messi's individual performance in the last World Cup was very impressive, almost alone carrying the whole team. But Messi is not easy to kick. at PSG. It's hard for them to find balance in the squad."

Contrary to the good results when fighting Messi, Muller often loses against Ronaldo. Bayern only won two out of eight meetings with Real, when the Spanish representative had Ronaldo in the squad. The Portuguese superstar scored nine goals against Bayern in this series of matches. Ronaldo helped Real beat Bayern three times in the knockout rounds of the Champions League, and then won the 2013-2014, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 seasons.

Bayern are still showing high form in the Champions League this season. They have won all of their past eight matches, scoring 21 goals and conceding only twice.
