Nadal tournament Kyrgios at auction Wimbledon
The 4-hour, 20-minute race was rated by the ATP as one of the best of the season. The gap was not big when both players had 56 winning points, with Fritz having eight break points and Nadal seven. The Spanish tennis player made 42 self-destruct mistakes, seven more than his younger generation. But, Nadal played better in some key moments, keeping the Wimbledon quarter-final winning record.
The 22 Grand Slam owner led 5-0 in the tiebreak series in the final set thanks to effective serve and naughty and accurate handling decisions. Fritz has lost five of his seven serves in this series because he often receives deep returns from Nadal. The 36-year-old held the lead in the tiebreaker series, culminating in a 10-4 win.
Nadal got off to a quick start in the game, winning his first catch to take a 3-1 lead over Fritz after 14 minutes. But, he went down in the ensuing game, giving Fritz five straight wins and capping the first set with a 6-3 victory. Nadal often frowned on his serve and hit the ball into the stands several times in a series of doubles behind the base.

Nadal left for medical treatment in the second set, admitting that sometimes he thought he could not finish the game. In an interview after the game, he said: "There was a pain in my abdomen, which made me change the way I served slightly. The energy on the court and here may have helped me get through the difficulties. My body is generally good."
Nadal's next opponent is Nick Kyrgios, who he beat in the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2014. Kyegos held high for the remaining quarter-finals, beating Christian Garin 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Thanks to a good serve, Kyrgios won the fourth tiebreak series in five series since the start of the game. He had 17 aces out of 35 winning points against Garin.
In his press conference following the win over Fritz, Nadal assessed Kyrgios as dangerous on all pitches, particularly on the grass. Tennis player Mallorca hopes to be 100% healthy when he plays against the 9-year-old on July 8th. Nadal leads Kyegos 6-3 in the confrontation record, including the last three consecutive victories. Nadal defeated Kyegos 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the 1000 Masters at Indian Wells in March.
Wimbledon has two lefties in the semi-finals for the first time since 1992, Nadal and Cameron Norrie. Nor has that happened in a Grand Slam event since Nadal and Jurgen Melzer reached the semi-finals of the French Open in 2010.
