Nadal withdrew before the match against Kyrgios

Rafael Nadal announced the withdrawal from Wimbledon on July 7, the day before the men's semi -finals with Nick Kyrgios.

During a press conference at 19h on 7/7 (London time), Nadal said that he could not play at Wimbledon, with 7mm tear in the abdomen. The decision was made based on medical tests, as well as the body's reaction after a 45 -minute training session in the morning. "I made a decision because I believe I could not win two more games in this situation," Nadal said. "I cannot serve. The problem is not only at the speed of the serve, but also in the fact that I cannot make normal movements to serve."

Nadal is seen using the belly sticker from the match against Botic Van de Zanschulp in the fourth round of Wimbledon on July 4. In the quarterfinals with Taylor Fritz, the abdominal pain was worse. He had a torn abdominal muscles, had to call for medical care between the second set. In the stands, relatives and members of Nadal's training team were worried. His father, Sebastian Nadal, signaled his son to give up, but Nadal fought to the end and won Fritz after five sets.

Nadal said he did not regret trying to complete the match against Fritz. He said that the thought of giving up in his mind right in the first 5.6 games of the match, but he was proud to continue playing and winning.

Another reason for Nadal's decision is that he does not want a worse belly tear, affecting his career. In 2009, Nadal tried to fight the US semi -finals expanded with Juan Martin Del Potro despite tearing the abdominal muscles. As a result, he lost quickly after three sets, while injury was worse.

Nadal is expected to take three to four weeks of vacation. He was the first to withdraw before the Grand Slam semi -finals, since Richard Krajicek in Australia expanded 1992. Nadal's decision helped his opponent, Nick Kyrgios first entered the Grand Slam final. On Instagram, Kyrgios also encouraged Nadal, wishing the Spanish tennis player soon recovered from injury.

Kyrgios's opponent is the winner of the match in the Novak Djovic and Cameron Norrie. This game is going on at 19h30 and 8/7, but is moved to 21h after Nadal withdraws.
