NBA All-Star Voting Results Phase 1: Familiar Faces Lead the Race
At dawn this morning on January 6, the NBA announced the results of the first round of All-Star voting from fans (fan-votes). The leading group is still very familiar names.
According to NBA rules, fan-votes will account for 50% of the total points to determine All-Star players. The remaining 50% is divided equally with 25% for the media department and the remaining 25% belongs to all playing NBA players.
LeBron personally, despite turning 38, is still a durable machine, averaging 29.0 points with 8.2 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game for the LA Lakers.
Meanwhile, Kevin Durant leads the Brooklyn Nets, the highest performing team in the entire NBA since the beginning of December until now. Durant currently averages nearly 30 points with 6.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists.
Instead of two East and West as before, this will be the 6th year that the NBA All-Star is held in the form of Draft. The voting phase will find the two captains with the highest number of votes, then each person will take turns choosing their teammates.
LeBron James has captained all five All-Stars under this new format and is unbeaten with a 5-0 record. His opponents even Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Stephen Curry have not been able to win the All-Star Game.
The next update of fan votes will appear next Friday (January 13). After synthesizing all votes, the list of 10 starting players (All-Star Starters) will be announced on January 27. The group of reserve players selected by the coaching staff of 30 NBA teams will be revealed a week later, on February 3.
This year's NBA All-Star series of events will take place at ViVint Smarthome Arena, the home ground of the Utah Jazz on February 18-19-20.
