According to former goalkeeper Shay Given, Newcastle can fully dream of winning the Premier League after defeating Leicester 3-0 to climb to second in the table.

"Can Newcastle compete to win the Premier League? Leicester did a few years ago. Why can't Newcastle dream of that?", Given, a former goalkeeper who played 462 games for Newcastle between 1997- 2009, said on APV channel on the evening of December 26.

Having to play away, but Newcastle completely overwhelmed. They led two goals after just seven minutes, and sealed victory in the 32nd minute. This result helped them climb to second in the Premier League with 33 points after 16 games, seven points behind the leading team Arsenal. Man City fell to third with 32 points, but played two games less than Newcastle.

Dfu so, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is still cautious. He asked the players to focus on short-term goals. According to Howe, the immediate things to do are to control expectations, not put unnecessary pressure on the team, try to win the next game and execute the tactical plan well.

Chris Wood, the player who opened the scoring from the 11m mark yesterday, also said that it was too early to talk about the possibility of Newcastle winning the Premier League, although that did not stop fans from dreaming about it.

Joelinton, who sealed a 3-0 victory, also shared: "We have to play game by game, then see what we can achieve at the end of the season."

This is Newcastle's sixth consecutive win in the English Premier League. They haven't done this since finishing fifth under former manager Alan Pardew 10 years ago.

In 2022, Newcastle won 21 Premier League matches. This is the best achievement since winning 23 matches in 1995. In the 1995-1996 season, the Northeastern team of England finished second. Howe also became the third English manager to win more than 20 Premier League games in a year, after Kevin Keegan (24 in 1994, 23 in 1995) and Roy Evans (22 in 1996).
