Newcastle have won the Premier League championship.
The expensive rookies of both teams soon scored in the first 11 minutes. Sandro Tonali opened the scoring in the sixth minute, and Moussa Diaby equalized for Aston Villa in the 11th minute. Newcastle striker Alexander Isak closed the first 15 minutes of madness with a ball to make it 2-1.
In the first hour or so of the match, Aston Villa was not far behind the host. But they lost the game by the brilliance of the two most expensive contracts in Newcastle history. While Tonali is no different from the boss in the middle, Isak is sharp in attack. The Swedish striker took advantage of midfielder Konsa's mistake, making it 3-1 in the 58th minute. Just two shots, Isak had a brace.
Aston Villa piled up the squad, hoping to replicate the 3-3 draw in the US last month. This time, the meeting between the two teams also had six goals, but the score was 5-1. The indiscreet defense caused the visitors to receive two more goals at the end of the game in an easy way. Rookie Harvey Barnes contributed a goal and an assist for Newcastle, both from counter-attacks. The scorer at the other table is Callum Wilson.
For the second year in a row, Aston Villa lost by four goals at St James' Park. The loss caused them to break their nine-match unbeaten streak and drop to the bottom of the table. They will not be in that position for long, if they continue to play like the first half against Newcastle.
Rookies like Diaby, Youri Tielemans or Pau Torres all integrated well and were quality additions to Aston Villa, during the season they had to play in the Conference League. However, coach Emery soon had to have a headache in defense, when central defender Tyrone Mings suffered a serious knee injury and may have to rest for a long time.
Newcastle temporarily occupied the top of the table with a 5-1 victory. The chants "we will win the tournament" by the fans for 90 minutes are not without foundation. The season is still long, but the performance in the first round brings optimism to Newcastle fans in both the Premier League and Champions League.
