Neymar scored a brace after half a year of convalescence
Neymar played the full 90 minutes, marking all three of PSG's goals, including an assist for rookie Marco Asensio to score. Before that, the last match Neymar played was when PSG beat Lille 4-3 in Ligue 1 on February 19, 2023, when he also scored a goal. The Brazilian star returned, shined and helped the home team end a series of three friendly matches without winning in Asia.
Neymar and Marco Verratti both started this match, next to Ethan Mbappe - Kylian Mbappe's younger brother. Mbappe's brother is banned from training with the first team, because he refuses to renew his contract. However, with a star like Neymar, PSG is still too strong compared to the most successful team in Korea. In the 40th minute, Neymar performed alone in the penalty area, made a fake gesture and then quickly shot to the near corner into the net, surprising the home defense.
This is also Neymar's first match under coach Luis Enrique at PSG, when the two worked together at Barca. In the 83rd minute, he received Fabian Ruiz's slit to face the goalkeeper, and once again hit the near corner to make it 2-0. Just five minutes later, the 31-year-old star hit his heel improvised for Asensio's shot to the top corner to seal a 3-0 victory for the French club.
Neymar was sold by PSG in May 2023, but the situation changed when Mbappe was in danger of being sold this summer. PSG also parted ways with Lionel Messi, meaning they risk losing all three stars in attack in one transfer window. Therefore, Neymar is likely to stay in Paris, when his contract has two years remaining.
PSG won the first match in Asia this year, after drawing with Al Nassr and losing to Cerezo Osaka, Inter. After this match, they will return to France to prepare to play the first match of the Ligue 1 season 2023-2024 against Lorient on August 13.
