Nguyen Thi Tam lost the World Boxing Final

India Vietnamese boxers lost 0-5 to Nikhat Zareen in the 48-50kg final of the 2023 women's world boxing tournament, on the evening of March 26.

Before the match, Nkhat Zareen was more appreciated as the defending champion in the 52kg class before moving down to the 50kg class, and there was great cheers from the host Indian audience. Entering the first half, Tam actively attacked but lacked accuracy while Nikhat launched many quality right-handed punches in the face of Vietnamese boxers.

Tam was also psychologically injured when he received a yellow card warning for knocking down his opponent twice. At the end of the half, Nikhat received five 10 points, while Tam received five 9 points from the referees of Japan, Australia, Egypt, Peru and Venezuela.

In the second round, Tam still maintained the attack tempo and punches more accurately. This half, it was Nikhat's turn to be psychologically injured when he received a yellow card for his opponent's throat-strangling error. The Vietnamese boxer was more appreciated when he received three points of 10 from referees Australia, Egypt, and Venezuela and two points of 9 from referees Japan and Peru.

With a four-point lead, Tam was forced to attack in the third round. However, Nikhat proved to be experienced when actively keeping his distance, actively moving and maintaining a moderate attack tempo. Mind makes efforts but does not make a difference. The referees gave two athletes 8 points, while the Peruvian referee gave Zareen 9 points.

This result helped host India get a higher score from all five referees, thereby winning the final 5-0 to win the title. The boxer born in 1996 will receive 100,000 USD in prize money. in Tam received silver medal and 50,000 USD in prize money (more than 1.2 billion VND).

Despite the defeat, Nguyen Thi Tam still made history when she became the first Vietnamese boxer to reach the final of a world boxing tournament. This is also the perfect momentum for her to defend the 32nd SEA Games gold medal and the silver medal at ASIAD 19 in China to win tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
