Nguyen Thuy Linh defeated the Indonesian opponent
This is the second time Nguyen Thuy Linh has clashed with Bilqis Prasista and continues to win, after 40 minutes of competition. Before that, she defeated this 54-ranked Indonesian opponent with a score of 21-13, 21-16 at the Thailand International Challenger on March 10.
Hundreds of fans came to Tay Ho Gymnasium to watch Thuy Linh play. In the second game, many people joked that Thuy Linh should lose so that the match could have a third game, helping them to watch longer. But on the court, the number one female tennis player in Vietnam focused on playing, dropped the bridge and had many beautiful jumps to score a quick finish 21-13.
Earlier in game one, Thuy Linh started well, leading to 6-1. She then repeatedly hit outside and missed the net, letting her opponent lead 9-6. But the more he competed, the more firmly the host's 40th-ranked player in the world hit his hand. She quickly regained the position and after missing two set-points, she finished the game successfully.
After winning tickets to the quarterfinals, Thuy Linh continued to receive good news when her biggest opponent in the race to the women's singles championship, Sim Yu Jin, was eliminated. The Korean player won the first game 21-19 but lost the second two games with a score of 18-21 and 21-23 to Japanese opponent Asuka Takahashi, ranked 72 in the world.
Sim Yu Jin was eliminated, Thuy Linh became the best candidate for the women's singles championship. She will hit the quarterfinals on March 23, meeting Huang Ching Ping, the 77th-ranked Taipei-Chinese tennis player in the world. This is the opponent that Thuy Linh once defeated at the 2020 Austrian Open.
Thuy Linh won a gold medal at the national youth badminton championship when she was 17 years old. In 2018, she usurped Vu Thi Trang's number one position in Vietnam. Thanks to the 42nd place in the world, the native Phu Tho tennis player was allowed to represent Vietnam at the 2020 Olympics - where she won two, lost one and finished second in the group stage.
