Thailand Vietnam's number one female tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh lost to Asuka Takahashi 17-21, 17-21, in the final of Thailand International Challenge on the afternoon of March 12.

Thuy Linh entered the game better and led 15-10 in the first half, but let the opponent remove 17-17. The turning point of the match came at the next point, when the Japanese player dropped out and the rope referee thought that the bridge fell out of the court. However, the referee sat closer to the court ruling, meaning Takahashi was up to 18-17.

Thuy Linh reacted but the referee's decision remained unchanged. After that, the Vietnamese player made three mistakes in a row and lost this round 17-21.

In the second half, the situation reversed when Takahashi led more, but the difference was not too big. Thuy Linh equalized 15-15 but at the next point, she dropped the bridge but the referee determined the bridge in the yard, helping Takahashi to pass again. When the Japanese player led 19-17, she immediately scored two points from Thuy Linh's error, to win 21-17.

Takahashi 24 years old, is ranked 97th in the ranking table of the Badminton World Federation (BWF). This is her third career title at the International Challenge level, following the Estonian and Indonesian titles in 2019.

Thuy Linh, 26 years old, ranked 49th in the world, has won the tournament eight times at this level, in 14 finals. The Phu Tho player did not have an accompanying coach to attend the tournament in Thailand, and she was also the only Vietnamese player to pass the first round.

BWF divides the tournaments into three systems (grade), in which the top (grade 1) is the major, individual and world team or Olympic tournaments. The second system (grade 2) is the BWF World Tour, which includes prizes with the word Super from 100 to 1000. Grade 3 includes the International Challenge, International Series and Future Series. The award in Thailand belongs to the highest level of grade 3.

Thuy Linh once won a grade 2 tournament, the Vietnam Open 2022 at Super 100 level, after defeating Goh Jin Wei in the final. This is also the only title of Vietnamese badminton in the Super system, since 2018.
