Ole Gunnar Solskjaer mocks Haaland

Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes his veteran Erling Haaland made a mistake when signing for Manchester City.

"When I signed with City, Ole texted:" Good luck picking the wrong team in Manchester, "Haaland told the Manchester Evening News.

Solskajer led Haaland while working for Molde, Norway. He tried and failed to bring the compatriot forward to United from 2019 to 2021. Instead of following in the old teacher's footsteps, Haaland travelled to Austria to play for Red Bull Salzburg before heading to Germany to play for Dortmund.

Haaland signed with Manchester United's city rivals Manchester City this summer. City is where Haaland's father, Alfie Inge, played as a player. "Sometimes we still talk to each other," Haaland said. "You know, Ole had a huge impact on my career when he was at Molde. He was a good guy."

Haaland has made amazing progress from a very young age. In five years, the 21-year-old striker has scored 20 goals in 50 appearances for Molde, 29 in 27 appearances for Salzburg Red Bull and 86 in 89 appearances for Dortmund. He also scored 20 goals in 21 games for Norway.

In Haaland's view, it is right to choose the right club when he is young. This allows him to train and develop into a real player. Had he played too early for a big club like Manchester United or Manchester City, he might not have developed so well. "Since coming to Molde, Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, I have made the perfect choice. I have nothing to complain about," Haaland stressed.
