Oman MP pays $1 million for Messi's cape

QatarAhmed Al Barwani offers to buy back the black Lionel Messi cape worn at the 2022 World Cup coronation ceremony.

"From the Sultanate of Oman, I congratulate you on winning the 2022 World Cup. The Arab bisht shirt is a symbol of chivalry and wisdom. I will pay you 1 million USD for it" , Al Barwani, a lawyer and member of parliament in Oman, made the proposal on Twitter on December 23.

During the World Cup coronation ceremony on December 18, the Emir of Qatar wore a black bisht shirt for Messi. Many people liken the shirt as a "royal robe" for the king during the coronation ceremony.

According to Sun, the bisht is a traditional robe for men in the Arab world, often worn by people of high status. It is also seen as a sign of respect and appreciation.

Al Barwani was also present at Lusail Stadium in the final. According to him, the moment when the Emir of Qatar put on a bisht shirt for Messi showed Arab culture to the world.

Al Barwani revealed what he plans to use if he buys Messi's shirt: "It will be on display to celebrate that proud moment, help us reminisce, and remind us that we can do anything".

According to the Sun, a Messi-like bisht shirt costs around $2,000. In the final, Qatar prepared two for Messi and France captain, Hugo Lloris in case France was crowned. The person who sewed the two shirts was Muhammad Abdullah Al-Salem.

"At first, we were not aware of the request to design the bisht shirt for the World Cup winner. We were surprised that the bisht that Messi was wearing was from his tailor shop. We are proud to be the first choice. the first of officials to produce bisht," Al-Salem said.

In the final on the evening of December 18, Argentina drew 3-3 with France in 120 minutes and won 4-2 in the penalty shootout. Messi won the World Cup for the first time, in five appearances. The 35-year-old striker also won the World Cup Golden Ball - the award for the best player of the tournament for scoring 7 goals and assisting three others on his journey to conquer the Golden Cup in Qatar.

The 2022 World Cup is Argentina's third world championship, after titles in 1978 and 1986. Argentina became the fourth richest country in the world. Brazil still leads with five World Cups, just ahead of Germany and Italy with the same four titles. France and Uruguay share two titles, while Spain and England have one.
