Onana explains the case of shouting at Maguire
A few minutes after replacing Tom Heaton at the break in the friendly match against Dortmund on the evening of July 30, Onana faced a dangerous situation. Maguire passed the error towards Christian Eriksen, creating conditions for Dortmund to counterattack.
Onana corrected his teammates when he blocked Sebastian Haller's close-range shot, while Karim Adeyemi kicked off the post. Right after that, the Cameroon goalkeeper aggressively ran towards Maguire and harshly criticized the former Man Utd captain. Maguire didn't reply, just turned and left.
After the match, Onana praised Maguire as a class player, good ball control, once the captain of Man Utd and has a good relationship with the English midfielder. But Onana wants his teammates to be ready because he always demands a lot every time he plays.
"We have to be strict with ourselves," the 27-year-old goalkeeper told MUTV. "I'll start with myself thinking we have to work together because mistakes will happen. Teams don't have to be afraid to make mistakes because that's part of life, and everyone learns from mistakes. But if we want to win trophies, we have to ask for more from each other. It's an honor to play for Man Utd, Maguire is a top player and we will continue."
Onana emphasized not only asking for more from Maguire, but also all Man Utd players. "I demand a lot from my teammates, because they also demand a lot and trust me," the Cameroonian goalkeeper explained. "They pass the ball to me a lot, so I have to give them confidence, and I want my teammates to pass to me to give me confidence."
