Pacquiao reappeared in late 2022
Yoo confirmed the news on YouTube with a video of him signing Pacquiao. YouTuber Korea said: "I am about to fight one of the best boxers in the world. I will reveal that boxer now, and he will be my next opponent. That is Pacquiao." The Filipino boxer responded briefly: "See you at the special event in December."
The performance contest, titled "Pac-Man vs DK Yoo," took place on Dec. 10. According to the British "Sun Sports" reported that the event was held in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. But according to Yahoo! News, Pacquiao will compete with Yoo in Korea.
DK Yoo is known as a sports and fitness instructor. He regularly posts videos containing combat sports training on his personal YouTube channel, which has more than 650,000 subscribers.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Yoo practices a martial art called "Combat System in War." This is a combination of Aikido, kung fu and brutal attack, and its effectiveness is questioned.
At the end of last year, Yoo had a fight with former UFC middleweight boxer Bradley Scott. Scott dominated by more than 20kg, winning referee points after six knockout-free rounds.
To prepare for the fight against Pacquiao, Yoo will train with former WBA flyweight champion Myung-woo Yoo. "Myung-woo Yoo was once a world boxing champion and I will train with him to prepare for a special fight against Pacquiao, which is an honor for me," he tweeted.
Pacquiao, meanwhile, last competed in the WBA welterweight title fight against Yordenis Ugas in Las Vegas in August 2021. After 12 knockout rounds, the 43-year-old Filipino boxer lost umpire points and was unable to reclaim the championship belt.
Subsequently, Pacquiao announced his retirement to run for the Philippine President in 2022. However, Pacquiao, a representative of the ruling PDP-Laban party, has also been politically unsuccessful, garnering fewer than 4 million votes, or 6.8 percent of the votes counted. Former Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. voted overwhelmingly for the president in the election.
"In the last 12 months, Pacquiao has suffered two hard-to-swallow defeats, one political and one sporting," Marca commented.
Pacquiao has been in boxing since 1995. His first world title was the WBC flyweight title in December 1998, when Pacquiao defeated Thai boxer Chatchai Sasakul. In addition to resonating in a multi-billion dollar boxing fight with Floyd Mayweather in 2015, Pacquiao set a record for nearly three decades. Pacquiao is the only boxer in history to win a world championship in eight different weight classes and is considered one of the greatest boxers in history. In his career, Pacquiao won 62 games, of which 39 were eliminated, eight lost and two drew.
