Park: 'If I am reborn, I don't want to be a coach.'
In 2000, coach Park Heng-rui began his career as a teaching assistant of the Korean team and won the fourth place in the 2002 World Cup. In the same year, he led South Korea U23 to play ASIAD at home. However, only winning the bronze medal allowed coach Park to be criticized and fired. Later, he led K League clubs such as Gyeongnam FC (2005-2007), Jeonnam Dragon Team (2008-2010), Shangzhou Shangwu (2012-2015) and Changwon FC (2017).
Park said it was he who accepted coaching positions multiple times, faced pressure and had to resign or be fired, causing him to suffer panic attacks. "I used to feel like I was dying," Coach Park said during a talk show in his hometown. "When I was head coach of Shangju Shangmu, I was hit twice and sent to the emergency room. After a thorough examination, they said I suffered from panic disorder. Until now, I still need to take medicine. I think it is because I am too nervous about the result."
Through treatment, Coach Park has adapted to the pressure. Now, he thinks achievement is a gust of wind, and after each success, he soon forgets to focus on new goals. The South Korean military leader shared: "I think whoever doesn't live like this, face and bear pressure. Whoever is old must give up his position."
When asked if he chose what he would do again, Coach Park gave the answer that surprised the host. He said: "If I reborn, I don't want to become a football coach. I have experienced a lot of things and asks myself if I can do it again?".
But after a moment of hesitation, Mr. Bao followed football since he was 16 and that was what he could do best. "I have a proud and unforgettable career anyway," he concluded.
Coach Park is about to retire at the end of 2017 when Changwon FC's achievement is not good. But then, he received an invitation from Vietnam and was encouraged by his wife, decided to work for the first time. This decision opens a new chapter successfully in the career of Park when leading the Vietnamese teams to win the U23 Asian Championship 2018, winning the AFF Cup 2018, SEA Games 2019 and in the final round of the 2022 World Cup .
Coach Park returned to Korea on June 20 to celebrate his mother's 100th birthday. He is expected to return to Vietnam in mid-July. Currently, the V-League 2022 monitoring is assigned to assistant Lee Young-jin.
