France The star duo of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe together made PSG lose 0-2 to Rennes at home in 28 Ligue 1 on March 19.

PSG lost at home in Ligue 1 for the first time since the 0-1 loss to Lille on April 3, 2021, ending a streak of 35 matches with 30 wins and 5 draws.

The defeat did not have much impact on the championship race when PSG remained firmly at the top with 66 points, seven points ahead of Marseille. But it increased the pressure on coach Christophe Galtier, who was already under a lot of pressure, as PSG were knocked out of the French Cup and Champions League.

In the stands, president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Sports Director Luis Campos did not hide their anger when witnessing PSG's performance.

On the Parc des Princes, PSG started sloppy and the first good opportunities belonged to Rennes. In the 8th minute, the PSG defense lost the ball in front of the penalty area and then let Karl Toko Ekambi comfortably go and finish off the post. Two minutes later, Ekambi dribbled past Juan Bernat, but the shot was blocked by Danilo Pereira.

From the 15th minute, PSG gradually mastered the game. In the 16th minute, from a messy situation before the round, the ball came to Messi's feet, but the Argentine star slipped when he finished and the ball could not pass the visitors' centre-back. A few minutes later, Mbappe penetrated the penalty area and shot into the corner near Rennes, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

In the 25th minute, Marco Verratti clicked the ball from the home field to let Mbappe escape to the left wing and then shot diagonally across the column. Less than a minute later, the French striker hit the ball again and failed to beat goalkeeper Steve Mandanda in the face-to-face, from Messi's slot.

Messi was once again squandered as his left-footed shot went light and right into Mandanda's position 33 minutes into the match. Five minutes before half-time, Messi swooped in from midfield for Mbappe to penetrate the box and finish again. Consciousness cannot defeat Mandanda. Goalkeeper Rennes took two beats to catch the ball.

Unable to take advantage of a series of opportunities, PSG had to pay the price in the 45th minute. From a long pass at home, Ekambi quickly eliminated Bernat and then shot across the corner to finish goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Rennes sealed the victory in the 48th minute, when Ugochukwu stretched to let Arnaud Kalimuendo cushion the empty goal.
