PSG coach blames injury
"In the first leg we lacked Mbappe, and Hakimi also had to leave the field," coach Galtier complained about PSG's personnel when playing against Bayern. "In the second leg, the team lacked Neymar and Kimpembe, and then Marquinhos and Mukiele's injuries. Their not having good form or absence makes PSG weaker."
The PSG coach admitted that some of his students were physically impaired because they had played 45 matches since the beginning of the season in all competitions. They were therefore inferior to Bayern in both matches, did not score any goals and lost the final 0-3.
"The opportunity for young players will be more. The team needs competition for the rest of the season," coach Galtier added of PSG's plans when the team has only one goal this season, Ligue 1. "Previous eye was the match in Brest, where we had to get back on our feet quickly."
Before stopping early in the Champions League, PSG also lost to Marseille in the French National Cup. They are holding the top of the Ligue 1 table with 63 points, eight points more than the second team Marseille. The championship race is under PSG's control, but the French media thinks that being eliminated in the Champions League makes Galtier's season considered to be over.
"I don't need to convince Mbappe or anyone to stay," Galtier replied when asked about convincing Kilian Mbappe to trust the project that the PSG leadership is pursuing. "Any player will be disappointed after a defeat. Right now Mbappe is a PSG man and he is hungry for success. I know he wants to take the team to the highest level possible."
PSG for the second year in a row stopped in the 1/8 round of the Champions League. Last year they led Real 2-0 on aggregate after the first half of the second leg at the Bernabeu, but lost three goals in just 17 minutes in the middle of the second half. The representative of Paris has been eliminated five times in the 1/8 round of the Champions League in the last seven seasons. Their best performance during this period was reaching the final of the 2019-2020 season with coach Thomas Tuchel.
PSG is forecast to face a tumultuous summer when all three stars Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar can leave. In which, Messi only has a few months of contract left, but the two sides have not reached an agreement to extend.
"It's too early to talk about changes," Galtier added. "My future depends on the president and the sporting director. I will focus on the rest of the season."
