PSG lost despite Mbappe scoring twice
After the national team gathering, most PSG players slowly caught up when returning to the club.
Nice started better, constantly threatening goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma's goal. In the 21st minute, Terem Moffi opened the score for the away team. The Nigerian striker aimed for the far corner, but the ball hit Lucas Hernandez's foot and changed direction to the near corner, leaving Donnarumma unable to react.
After conceding, PSG played more determined. In the 28th minute, rookie Ousmane Dembele ran down to face goalkeeper Marcin Bulka, but his right foot curled wide of the goal. A minute later, from Achraf Hakimi's low cross, Mbappe kicked the ball off Bulka's hand and into the goal.
Mbappe's equalizer seemed to boost PSG's spirit. At the end of the first half, the ball continuously rolled on Nice's field. If Goncalo Ramos, Dembele and Mbappe had taken advantage of three opportunities in the last 10 minutes, the outcome of the match could have been different.
But in reality, PSG must pay the price for their waste. After the break, Nice started better again and drowned the home team. In the 53rd minute, Moffi crossed for Gaetan Laborde to volley home from close range to increase the score to 2-1. In the 68th minute, it was the Nigerian striker who curled the ball outside the penalty area to increase the gap to two goals.
Moffi has a total of three goals and two assists after five Ligue 1 rounds this season. He continues to improve after scoring 18 goals in 34 matches for Lorient and Nice in the 2022-2023 season.
PSG sent Manuel Ugarte and Kolo Muani onto the field, but could not change the situation in time. The home team was only able to remove one more goal in the 87th minute. In his first match for PSG, Muani left his mark with a cross that Mbappe volleyed into Nice's net.
This is the third consecutive double of the French captain striker in Ligue 1 for PSG, after wins against Lens 3-1 and Lyon 4-1. However, he could not prevent the team from falling to third with eight points. Meanwhile, Nice climbed to second with nine points. Monaco is still leading with 10 points, and has played one match less than the two teams behind.
This loss is PSG's poor preparation for the Champions League. Next week, Mbappe and his teammates will start the Champions League "group of death" with a match against Dortmund.
