PSG lost for the first time in 7 months
Before the match against Lens, PSG were unbeaten in the last 38 matches, of which all won 10 consecutive matches. The impressive game circuit ended, on the day Lionel Messi did not return and Neymar was suspended. PSG's defeat makes Ligue 1 more attractive in the second half of the season, when the gap between the defending champion and the second group of Lens is only four points.
Lens is the only team to win at home since the beginning of the tournament. The owner of the Bollaert-Delelis stadium entered the game with determination and spirit before the championship competitor. In the 5th minute, Przemyslaw Frankowski was in the perfect position to score his first Ligue 1 goal of the season, after Gianluigi Donnarumma pushed the ball off Massadio Haidara's volley.
But PSG also showed why they are unbeaten since the end of March. Just three minutes, the away team leveled the score. From Nordi Mukiele's pass, young striker Hugo Ekitike was faster than goalkeeper Brice Bamba to control the ball and then shot into an empty net. Ekitike almost scored twice, when he rushed in after Bamba missed Kylian Mbappe's long shot. But at close range, the PSG striker missed the column.
Alexis Claude-Maurice then wasted a golden opportunity to restore the lead to Lens, but Lois Openda soon corrected his teammate. The 22-year-old striker pinned down Sergio Ramos, before making a gesture to pass Marquinhos and finish Donnarumma in the 28th minute.
After leading the goal, Lens continued to kick close from the PSG field. From a steal in the middle of the pitch after Fabian Ruiz's mistake, Openda pulled the assist for Claude-Maurice to make it 3-1 at the start of the second half.
The defense is loose, the PSG attack is also lacking in vitality when the two superstars Messi and Neymar are absent. The long shots of Achraf Hakimi or Fabian Ruiz could not make it difficult for goalkeeper Lens. The clearest opportunity came in the 75th minute, but from close range, Pablo Sarabia's header wasn't hard enough to beat Brice Samba.
PSG lost their first match in Ligue 1, and failed for the first time in 24 official matches this season. Lens won all nine home matches, to reach the 40-point mark, only four points below the top of the table that the opponent is holding.
