PSG ready to replace Mbappe

PSG accepted to pay Benfica $ 72 million with $ 17 million in surcharges to recruit Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos, in the context of unresolved problems with Kylian Mbappe.

To circumvent Financial Fair Play, PSG will borrow Ramos for a season, with a mandatory purchase option in the summer of 2023. This reduces the spending pressure on the French club in the fiscal year 2023-2024, when they have poured 175 million USD in the transfer window for rookies like Manuel Ugarte, Lucas Hernandez or Lee Kang-in.

The fee Benfica received could be up to $ 89 million, but Ramos will only be the fourth most expensive deal in the history of the Portuguese club. Before that, they sold three players for $90 million or more, Enzo Fernandez, Joao Felix and Darwin Nunez.

PSG have not yet negotiated a personal agreement with Ramos, but this is not a big deal, according to Athletic. The 22-year-old striker will replace Kylian Mbappe - a player who can no longer train with the PSG first team because of discipline.

Ramos has caught the eye of many of Europe's top clubs, following his performances last season at Benfica and with Portugal. He scored a hat-trick to help the home team eliminate Switzerland in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup, and helped Benfica win the Portuguese championship for the 38th time. The 1.88-meter-tall striker scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 games last season at club level. He could be PSG's ninth rookie in the summer of 2023.

Ramos joined Benfica at the age of 12 and has been with this club for the past 10 years. On average every 90 minutes in the Portuguese league last season, he scored 0.79 goals excluding penalties, the highest number in the league. The left-footed striker has a knack for taking a one-touch shot to the near corner, as he did at the World Cup.

In addition to Ramos, PSG also reached an agreement to recruit Ousmane Dembele from Barca to replace Lionel Messi. However, the French club is considering disbursement methods to avoid violating the Financial Fair Play law.
