Quang Liem defeats Uzbek chess prodigy

Switzerland's Quang Liem led the black army, defeating Nodirbek Abdusattorov in game two of the standard chess content to return to the top of the Biel Grandmaster group on July 15.

If in the first game, Quang Liem led the white army lost to Gata Kamsky. The second game was black but defeated Abdusattorov. In a chess position that requires complex calculations, Vietnam's number one player is more qualified to win after 46 moves. The victory over Abdusattorov helped Quang Liem earn 4.5 Elo, climbing to 24th in the world.

This is the only win in the second round, helping Quang Liem return to the top of the table with 15 points. Andrey Esipenko and Gukesh Dommaraju were behind with 13 and 12.5 points respectively. As for Abdusattorov, this was his second consecutive loss in the standard chess.

Abdusattorov is considered a chess prodigy, when he became a grandmaster at the age of 13 years, 1 month and 11 days, standing above the achievement of Chess King Magnus Carlsen. The 18-year-old is the reigning world fast chess champion, and the youngest to do so.

In the third round of the Biel Grandmaster, Quang Liem will lead the white army against Gukesh. If he wins Quang Liem, Gukesh will become a super grandmaster at the age of 16. These two players are both patrons of the HDBank International Chess Tournament, which takes place annually in Vietnam. At the last time he attended the 2019 tournament in Ho Chi Minh City, Gukesh ranked fourth.

The third round starts at 13:00 on Saturday 16/7 (18h, Hanoi time). The other three matches are Vincent Keymer - Abdusattorov, Salem Saleh - Kamsky and Arkadij Naiditsch - Andrey Esipenko.
