Rare situation at NBA Playoffs: Referee shed blood due to collision with LeBron James
At the end of the second half at Game 3 of the Western Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets, LeBron James and referee Scott Foster had a rather rare collision situation.
The ball was fast, causing Mr. Foster to tear his lip and bleed, while James lost his momentum and could not receive a quick counter-attack from his teammates. Because he was in a position to chase the score, LeBron was not happy about this collision.
At the end of the second half, Jamal Murray went to the basket to score the 30th score in Game 3, continuing the extreme momentum from the 4th half of the previous match. Having just been scored, the Lakers deployed a counterattack as quickly as possible.
Austin Reaves received the ball and launched a pass up the pitch for LeBron James, taking advantage of the Denver defense not in position. But the ball could not reach LeBron because the 2m06 tall player weighing nearly 115kg collided with referee Scott Foster on the by-line.
Foster didn't notice LeBron's steps, and James himself lost his rhythm and couldn't accelerate as quickly as he could. The result was turnover for the Los Angeles Lakers as the ball went straight out of Reaves's hand.
It seemed that this was just a normal collision phase. The TV corner then showed referee Foster with a torn lip and bleeding. Austin Reaves was the one who immediately came to check on the referee, LeBron was also present a few seconds later.
Mr. Foster joked with James, "You've been wanting to do this for a long time."
Austin Reaves had a funny share with Mr. Foster when he said that his teammate should have received a technical error, which of course did not happen.
There is no penalty or whistle because by law, the referee is also a part of the football field. Even if the ball or player hits the referee, the game will continue.
Each NBA referee team always has 4 people, including 1 referee (crew chief), 2 regular referees and 1 reserve referee. In the worst case scenario, if Mr. Scott Foster is unable to continue the game, a substitute referee will come on as a substitute.
After four innings, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers team lost 118-109 despite playing at home. The series score is now 3-0 belongs to the Denver Nuggets and in NBA history, there has never been a team that has successfully come upstream from the gap.
