Richarlison denies overthrowing coach Conte
"Questioning and criticizing me about my performance as a player is part of football and I accept it. But saying false things about me cannot be ignored. I have always had great respect for Conte. Like every coach I've worked with, Richarlison wrote on Twitter yesterday March 30.
Earlier, a reporter for Argentine television channel TyC Sports reported that Richarlison and a number of teammates, including Cristian Romero, sent a letter to Tottenham's leadership, asking for Conte's dismissal. The incident happened after the Italian coach attacked the player after the 3-3 draw against Southampton in the Premier League despite taking a two-goal lead on March 18. He said the players were selfish, afraid to cope with pressure and was the main reason why Tottenham were empty-handed for many years.
A week later, Tottenham announced the farewell of Conte and brought in assistant Cristian Stellini as interim coach until the end of the season. There are rumors that Conte's comments upset many players, including Richarlison. Not long ago, the Brazilian striker publicly criticized Conte for making him a substitute in the second leg of the 1/8 Champions League round of 16 against AC Milan.
"Conte helped me a lot when I first moved to Tottenham. Whenever there was a problem between us, even appearing in the media, both sides solved it based on talks and professionalism," the striker said. 25 years old confirmed. "He can confirm this. I am not the mastermind against Conte, but the opposite. I apologize for not being able to play as he expected. I did not play well enough for Conte to stay."
Richarlison also revealed that he had sent a message to thank him and wish Conte every success in the future.
Tottenham will be a guest at Everton in round 29 on April 3, their first match after parting with Conte. Richarlison was unable to play due to a muscle injury.
