Ronaldo clamps his neck, knocks his opponent down
In the 57th minute, when Al Nassr was led 1-0 by the host Al Hilal, Ronaldo and midfielder Gustavo Cuellar competed for the ball. While Cuellar was pinning his body, Ronaldo ran from behind and used his arms to clamp the Colombian midfielder's neck. Then, the 38-year-old striker knocked Cuellar to the ground, when neither player could touch the ball.
British referee Michael Oliver showed Ronaldo a yellow card after this ball. And Cuellar can also continue to play without injury.
This is Ronaldo's third yellow card since switching to Al Nassr in early 2023. In the previous two cards, there was a situation where he reacted to the referee by kicking the ball.
Ronaldo experienced a great war with Al Hilal on the evening of April 18, which was not satisfactory. In the 76th minute, he was also denied a goal for offside, when only a small part of his shoulder was off the offside line, causing VAR to deny the goal. In the 84th minute, Al Nassr was awarded a penalty and Ronaldo was about to shoot, but VAR again intervened, causing referee Oliver to cancel the decision to punish Al Hilal player with his hand.
Ronaldo also had reason to be angry when he created a good chance with a quick throw-in for Abdulrahman Ghareeb to receive the ball, but the midfielder shot too inaccurately. The Portuguese superstar played the full 90 minutes, finished four times but did not aim for the goal. The second half was compensated for more than 13 minutes, but Al Nassr and Ronaldo still could not score.
Al Hilal won 2-0 with a brace from Odion Ighalo both from penalties in the 42nd and 62nd minutes. The Nigerian striker rose to the top of the Saudi League top scorer race with 18 goals. Ighalo also attracted attention when he congratulated the table in the style of kneeling near the corner column, pointing two index fingers to the sky, like Lionel Messi did at the 2022 World Cup. However, this is the familiar type of celebration of striker Al Hilal.
Al Nassr lost the second match in a row, still second but in danger of being dropped by the top team Al Ittihad by six points after round 24. This is their first match under interim coach Dinko Ilicic. They have only six games left to find a way to overcome Al Ittihad and win. Currently, the leader of Al Nassr targets Zinedine Zidane or Jose Mourinho as a coach.
