Ronaldo makes more mistakes than shots on target
Through 13 matches Man Utd have played, Ronaldo has appeared 10 times and averaged 52 minutes per game. He had 25 chances to finish, of which 13 missed the target, six times were blocked by opponents and six times the ball headed for goal. Of Ronaldo's six shots on target, only once was the keeper defeated and led to a goal for Man Utd. It was also his only goal this season, in the 2-1 win over Everton on the evening of October 9.
Ronaldo has fouled seven times this season, more than on target. He also received two yellow cards, more than the number of goals. The 37-year-old striker's first yellow card came in a draw at Newcastle, when he stole the ball to death and kicked it into the net, despite the controversial situation. In the 1-3 defeat at home to Aston Villa on November 6, Ronaldo received a yellow card for wrestling with midfielder Tyrone Mings.
Ronaldo's finishing performance is also not high, with 25 shots for a goal. Of the 159 players who have scored in the Premier League after round 15, only Leicester midfielder Demarai Gray has performed worse than Ronaldo, with 26 shots per goal. But there are also two players who have finished more than Ronaldo without scoring, Danny Welbeck and Solly March with the same 26 shots without scoring for Brighton.
Not only Ronaldo, Man Utd also disappoints in statistics. Despite being fifth on the scoresheet, their goal difference is -1, with 18 goals and 19 goals conceded. In terms of goals, "Red Devils" ranked 11th in the tournament. On average, Man Utd needs 9.9 shots to score a goal, poor performance by 13 other teams.
"In both halves we didn't play well enough," said coach Erik ten Hag after the defeat to Aston Villa. "We couldn't keep the ball, we weren't disciplined, and we often failed in duels."
The injury of Jadon Sancho, Antony or Anthony Martial is part of the cause of Man Utd's attack. The 37-year-old striker like Ronaldo must play all 90 minutes of the last four matches in all competitions, within 11 days. Martial entering the field in the second half at Villa Park after struggling with an injury can help the team's attack to be somewhat relieved.
