Ronaldo signs two years with Al Nassr
The image published on Al Nassr's account on the morning of December 31 shows Ronaldo holding the club's traditional yellow and green number 7 shirt.
Saudi Arabia's Al Arabiya newspaper added that the two sides signed the contract after Ronaldo partially completed a medical examination. The rest of the test will be done next week.
Al Nassr is expected to announce the contract after the match against Al Khaleej tonight. The team has prepared everything to welcome Ronaldo, like a home for him and his family in the expensive area near the team's training ground, in the Al Muhammadiyah area in the capital Riyadh.
The striker with the most goals in history will receive a salary of $ 75 million per year at Al Nassr. His weekly salary is more than a million USD, not including the sale of image rights. Ronaldo will take on a role in the campaign to help Saudi Arabia host the 2030 World Cup.
Ronaldo is expected to have the right to choose a coach for the team, when Rudi Garcia is leading Al Nassr. They are second in the Saudi Arabian Championship (Pro League), with 23 points from 10 matches. Al Nassr needs to win the Pro League, or win the King Cup this season, to qualify for the AFC Champions League 2023-2024.
Al Nassr is the second richest in the history of Saudi Arabia with nine championships, taking half of Al Hilal's title. Currently, Al Hilal is banned from transferring until the summer of 2023 due to falsifying the agreement in the transfer of midfielder Mohamed Kanno.
Al Nassr played on Mrsool Park with 25,000 seats, the sixth most in the tournament. The last time they won the Pro League was the 2018-2019 season. They have never won the AFC Champions League, with a second runner-up in 1995. Al Hilal holds the record of four AFC Champions League titles, in addition to Saudi Arabia and Al Ittihad have won this award twice.
Ronaldo first joined Man Utd in the summer of 2003 and left in 2009 to join Real Madrid for $ 97 million - a world record at that time. In the first six years of his career, Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 matches, with Man Utd winning 9 titles, including a Champions League and three Premier League titles.
He suddenly returned to Man Utd at the end of the summer transfer window of 2021, after parting with Juventus. But in this reunion, he only stayed for a year and a half, scoring 27 goals in 54 matches, without winning any more titles. In the first season, although the team did not play successfully, Ronaldo personally still impressed with 24 goals in 38 matches in all competitions. This season, he lost the main kick under coach Ten Hag, scoring three goals in 16 matches, before parting.
The split comes about a week after Ronaldo rocked world football with a 90-minute interview with MC Piers Morgan. The contents of the 37-year-old striker revealed in that interview caused the already very bad relationship between him and the club to break down to the point of irreparable.
Man Utd waited for the full content of the interview to be broadcast in two parts on November 16 and November 17, before making a decision with Ronaldo. They then announced that the Portuguese striker did not need to return to the team after the 2022 World Cup.
