Runners across the country run to welcome the new year
On the evening of December 23, nearly 2,000 Hai Phong runners of all ages participated in a run to celebrate Christmas and New Year called Santa Run. The race consists of two short distances of 2.5km and 5km, so it is suitable for many subjects including beginners and children. This is the "closing" activity of Hai Phong running in 2022, so it has received a strong response. Runner in red costume, Santa hat, reindeer hair dyed the central streets red, creating a bustling atmosphere in the last days of the year.
The event is not-for-profit, so the proceeds from the organizers are used to give gifts to students and families in difficult circumstances in the area. Similar Santa Run events were also held in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Hanoi, attracting thousands of participants.
The Hoa Khanh Runner group in Da Nang welcomes the new year by organizing a tracklog drawing event to "number 2023" in the form of live and online running. Runner will run from 21h to 23h59h on December 31 with a total distance of 13.6km. To date, the event has attracted hundreds of participants. The organizers will deduct part of the proceeds to take care of the lives of disadvantaged children.
Mr. Nguyen Phi Hung - representative of Hoa Khanh Runners said that the running race is an activity to connect members after a busy year and towards the community. "Last year, we competed everywhere, every tournament. The year-end event is a time for members to connect with each other, and at the same time keep spiritual energy for a more successful new year. We also want to spread the word. positive energy through this event", Mr. Hung shared.
In the near future, more than 40 members of Hoa Khanh Runners will participate in the VM Ho Chi Minh City Midnight race. According to the group's representative, in addition to acting as a New Year's Eve event, New Year's Eve activities are also an opportunity to prepare mentally and tactically for the Saigon night run - the race that the whole group has been waiting for. "Most of the members are attending the night race for the first time, so the expectations are very high. We had a training plan many months ago and are following it very well," added Mr. Hung.
Not only Hai Phong, Da Nang, the spirit of sharing with the community also spread to Ho Chi Minh City. The Sunday Running Club (SRC) group has chosen to organize charity activities to close the year 2022. The members of the group have been traveling by bicycles and motorbikes on roads for many days to distribute gifts such as cards, milk, cake, red envelopes to children in difficult circumstances.
Ms. Uyen - the person in charge of the activities said that nearly 200 gifts have been given and the group wants to continue in the future. "We want to contribute to bringing a full, warm and loving Tet to disadvantaged children. The gifts are not of material value but are the heart of Sai Thanh runner", she shared. .
SRC is a running group that regularly accompanies charity and community support activities. In 2021, the group called for more than 200 million VND, organized many deliveries of essential supplies and medical supplies to field hospitals throughout Ho Chi Minh City to join the frontline in fighting the epidemic. This is also a group that has an active movement in the South region and regularly participates in the MetaSports Marathon.
Phu My Hung Runners organizes the internal tournament "The New Year Heights" with many distances including 12, 30 and 52km, on the last day of the year, representing 12 months, 30 days and 52 weeks. The tournament starts at 3pm and ends before the time of the new year. According to Mr. Nguyen Phuc Hau, this is the 4th time the club has organized internal tournaments in the year. The distances are longer than the standard with the desire to help runners increase their endurance, test their fitness before making new goals in 2023.
Organizing the tournament at night is also PMHR's way to the MetaSports Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight. All team members consider VM's night run as an important event, so they practice hard. "We have had a busy 2022 and this is the tournament that closes the old year with the expectation that the new year will be stronger and higher, especially when competing at the MetaSports Marathon system," said Mr. Hau.
In 2022, PMHR is one of the prominent groups in Ho Chi Minh City with hundreds of runners participating in the MetaSports Marathon system and regularly winning high rankings in middle-aged groups. The group has grown significantly when increasing the number of members from 3,000 to 4,200 people.
