Sadio Mane reaches agreement to join Al Nassr
On July 28, Bayern reached a verbal agreement to sell Mane to Al Nassr for 40 million euros ($44 million), and the two sides were just waiting to complete the formal contract procedure. After an unsuccessful season with Mane, Bayern still has a profit, because a year ago they only spent 32 million euros to buy Mane from Liverpool.
Mane also agreed personal terms to join Al Nassr, whose salary could fall in the range of 40 million euros a year, slightly more than midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. The Senegal forward could sign a three-year contract with the Saudi club, becoming the fourth rookie from Europe to join the team this summer, after midfielders Seko Fofana, Brozovic and defender Alex Telles.
Mane was forced to leave Bayern despite still having two years on his contract, because he punched teammate Leroy Sane after losing to Man City in the Champions League quarter-finals last season. The two players have reconciled, but Mane has no future at the team. He also did not play well last season, scoring just 12 goals in 38 games, the lowest number since he played for Southampton.
Mane joining Bayern helped Ronaldo's wish come true, when he once asked Al Nassr to recruit three more stars. Brozovic, Telles and Mane all have experience playing at the top of Europe and are expected to help Al Nassr compete for more titles, although other strong opponents in the Saudi Pro League are also actively strengthening their forces.
With Mane, Al Nassr will complete the list of eight maximum foreign players for next season, including Ronaldo, Talisca, David Ospina, Brozovic, Ghislain Konan, Telles, Fofana and the Senegalese rookie. The 31-year-old striker is expected to play with Ronaldo and Talisca in attack at Al Nassr next season.
