Salah keeps throwing armbands when being substituted
In the 77th minute, Klopp withdrew Salah and Luis Diaz at the same time, to bring in two young players Harvey Elliott and Ben Doak. On the way to the pitch, Salah shook his head and took off his wristband and threw it on the field. The Stamford Bridge audience roared with Salah's action, but he continued to do it three more times and were all mocked.
When off the touchline, Salah and Klopp do not interact with each other. He then returned to his seat and continued to throw part of the armband, and the audience cheered again.
Salah has scored in all six of Liverpool's Premier League debuts in the last six seasons, but this season he broke his streak. The 31-year-old star poked a beautiful assist for Luis Diaz to open the scoring, but did not have many opportunities to score when Liverpool only once shot towards the goal this match.
Klopp's decision also surprised fans on social media, when Salah and Diaz were considered Liverpool's best players and the two substitutes were only 18 and 20 years old. "On the football forum of the Reddit network, the account akshatsood95 commented: 'Why Klopp replaced Liverpool's best player', and many others agreed.
Former defender Jamie Carragher also had a similar opinion when commenting on Sky Sports. He said: "Klopp made a bold decision, because Salah played aggressively in the first half. From the second half, Liverpool didn't play well. I can understand why Salah was angry."
Explaining this decision, Klopp said in a post-match interview: "Salah is very important for Liverpool, but we need him to be fit. Salah has 500 different records, so I can't think of a scoring record. in his opening matches".
In the remaining nearly 20 minutes, 18-year-old midfielder Doak touches the ball six times, passes the ball four times and does nothing else. Elliott played more aggressively but could not help Liverpool leave with three points.
Last season, Salah played all 38 Premier League games, including eight substitutes, but he did not react as strongly as the first game this season. In the first half, he also put the ball in the net and was congratulated, but then was disappointed because VAR did not recognize the goal because of offside.
