Son took responsibility when Conte lost his job
"As a player, I feel very sorry. Conte is a top-class coach and we have come a long way. I should have played better. I feel responsible for his departure. him, because he can't be of much help to the club," Son said after the friendly match Korea lost to Uruguay 1-2 on March 28.
Last season, Son scored 23 goals and was the top scorer in the Premier League with Mohamed Salah. He contributed to helping Tottenham finish fourth. But this season, the Korean striker has only scored six goals. Son's decline made Tottenham lose a dangerous attack, although the North London club still scored 52 goals in 28 matches, just behind the top two teams Arsenal (66) and Man City (67).
Tottenham sacked Conte on March 26, a week after the Italian coach criticized his student's selfishness, lack of fighting spirit and ability to cope with pressure. Conte left as Tottenham finished fourth in the Premier League, but no longer have a chance to compete for the title this season as they have been knocked out of the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.
"I am grateful to Conte for what he has done. He is a good coach, rich in experience. I will support him and wish him success in the future," Son continued.
Tottenham will be a guest at Everton in the next match in the Premier League on the evening of April 3.
