New Zealand The Spanish women's team must apologize for jokingly performing the traditional New Zealand haka dance ahead of the 2023 World Cup.

The Spanish women's team has been exposed to a video showing the players laughing while performing the haka dance. They were criticized for not respecting the culture of the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, and had to delete the clip.

Yesterday, the Spain team met a Maori tribe and issued an apology. "We ask for forgiveness after our mistake," said Spain women's captain Ivana Andres. "We've only been to New Zealand for a few days and still have a lot to learn about the culture."

A spokesman for the tribe said the meeting went well. "Their words come from the heart and they understand that haka is very precious, not only to the Maori people but also to Aotearoa," he added.

Haka is a traditional Maori war dance. This dance is often performed in groups, with strong movements, stamping feet accompanied by shouts. In addition to the purpose of intimidating enemies, haka is also used to show pride, strength and solidarity.
