Spectators help Spieth escape the cut of The Players 2023
On the Stadium par72 of the TPC Sawgrass golf complex, Spieth started the second round from the 10th hole, scoring two birdies in a row to get a score of -5. But the next 15 holes, he hit three bogeys and two double bogeys, bringing the score down to +2 while the expected cutoff was +1.
On the par5 9th hole, Spieth again misfired due to a throbbing left foot. The ball went into a water hazard, but returned to the rough on the right side of the fairway by hitting a spectator in the knee.
After the collision, Spieth was 277 yards from the flag. He used a 3 wooden club for the second shot. This shot did not reach the green, nearly eight meters from the target. But since then, the owner of three majors and 10 PGA Tour cups still chips in.
When he finished the 9th hole with an eagle, Spieth went up even par, standing at T39. Level +1 has not yet become an official filter point when round 2 has not ended because of bad weather. However, in the current position, Spieth is considered to win the next ticket because the PGA Tour cut the elimination according to the principle of taking the top or T65 and the same position or around the expected filter point, only 20 players have not completed the round.
"I think the ball hit the asphalt, then hit the knee of the audience. It was like hitting the green, about to hit a trap, but it turned out to be on the green by hitting the stands," Spieth said. His speculation matches the description on the official PGA Tour page.
Spieth is 29 years old, has been playing professionally since 2012, for a total of 26 weeks holding the world number one position.
Spieth is looking for a way to get in touch to support the "living wall" that will help him survive The Players Championship 2023 - the third time in eight appearances. When this year's cut is over, the competitor is sure to get at least $40,000, and the championship is $4.5 million.
When the PGA Tour halted round 2, the top of the table was at -8, belonging to Christiaan Bezuidenhout who had completed 14 holes and Adam Svensson had just gone through 11 holes and T3 (-6) had three hands.
On the world professional golf table, Bezuidenhout is 81st, 24 places below Svensson.
