Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson extend the unprecedented 3-pointer record in the NBA
On this morning (March 29), the Golden State Warriors completed a comeback against the New Orleans Pelicans, clearing the 20-point gap and going straight to the final victory with a score of 120-109.
Leading the game was Stephen Curry, the owner of 39 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. In addition, the "chef" also had 8 3-pointers in the whole match, helping him reach a successful milestone of 250 3-pointers in the 2022-23 season.
After this match, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson together hit the 250 3-point mark in the same season, marking the third time both have achieved this special achievement. The previous two took place in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
It is worth mentioning that in the history of the NBA, no NBA duo has ever reached the milestone of 250 3-pointers each. But Curry and Thompson alone have made it up to 3 times according to statistics from ESPN Stats & Info.
In a career spanning 14 seasons (up to now), this is the 8th season that Stephen Curry has surpassed the milestone of 250 3-pointers at the Regular Season.
Experts once expressed concern that Curry could not achieve this achievement because of various injuries, causing the Golden State Warriors superstar to miss more than 25 games since the beginning of the season. However, the "chef" still fulfilled the target.
Klay Thompson is a bit different from Curry when this is only the third time he has reached the 250 3PTM milestone in nearly 12 years of playing. But in all three of these achievements, Klay has the companion of Stephen Curry.
This season, both Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry have thrown three more points than their career averages. Surprisingly, both still maintain their effectiveness from outside the 3-point arc, even better than some recent seasons.
Stephen Curry is having a successful 3-point throw rate of 42.8% 3PT. This is the second most effective in the last 9 seasons although he is averaging 11.5 times per game (the third highest in his career).
Same goes for Klay Thompson as this pitcher has 40.8% 3PT. This is the third best stat since 2016 even though he is having the highest pitching intensity of his career, averaging 10.5 shots per game.
Detailed statistics are as follows (as of March 29):
Cầu thủ | Số trận | 3PTA | 3PTM | Tỷ lệ |
Stephen Curry | 51 | 11.5 (9.0) | 4.9 (3.8) | 42.8% |
Klay Thompson | 65 | 10.5 (7.4) | 4.3 (3.1) | 40.8% |
Notes: 3PTA - Number of 3-pointer throws per game, 3PTM - Number of successful 3-pointers per game. The numbers in parentheses are career averages
As the defending NBA champion this year, however, the Golden State Warriors are facing many difficulties in the process of defending their throne.
In addition to Stephen Curry having to miss more than 20 games since the beginning of the season due to injury, the Warriors are also without Andrew Wiggins indefinitely due to family reasons. Losing a steady scorer with an average of more than 17 points per game created a difficult problem for coach Steve Kerr.
Facing the shortage of personnel, Golden State fans will continue to put their full faith in the hands of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. They hope their favorite team will survive the regular season's sprint to play in the Playoffs next April.
