Thailand aims twice as high as Vietnam at SEA Games 32

The Thai sports delegation is aiming for the top of the 32nd SEA Games team with 162 gold medals, nearly double the minimum mark of Vietnam.

The number mentioned above is the highest since the 24th SEA Games hosted by Thailand with 183 gold medals. After that, they won 86, 109, 107, 95, 72, 92 gold medals from the 25th to 30th congress. By SEA Games 31, Thailand won 92 gold medals, ranked second after host Vietnam.

This year, Vietnam sent 1,003 members to attend the Games in Cambodia, including about 700 athletes. This is the largest number of members in the history of Vietnamese sports that have ever attended an overseas SEA Games. The team's goal is to win from 90 to 120 gold medals and be in the top 3.

Thailand attended the 32nd SEA Games with the largest force of 1,985 members with more than 1000 athletes. The Thai Olympic Committee and the National Sports Development Fund approved a budget of 156 million baht (about 100 billion VND) for the delegation, but it will be reduced after the host Cambodia provides free accommodation and domestic transportation.

Thailand is strong in athletics, weightlifting, rattan bridge, taekwondo, boxing, table tennis,... Thailand has some outstanding stars such as taekwondo fighter Panipak Wongpattanakit - 2021 Olympic gold medal, dominating the under 49kg category. the last three SEA Games. Athletics "prodigy" Puripol Boonson won three gold medals in 100m, 200m and 4x100m in men's SEA Games 31. Naturalized foot runner Joshua Atkinson won four gold medals 400m, 800m, 4x400m and 4x400m mixed men's SEA Games 31.

Thailand aims to win back some gold medals such as men's and women's football, wrestling, sports dancing or kick boxing. These are the subjects they did not meet the target in the previous semester.

Thailand ranked first in the entire SEA Games delegation with the most 13 times after 31 times, including 1959, 1965, 1967, 1971, 1973, 1975, 1985, 1995, 1999, 2007, 2009, 2013 and 2015. Thailand was also the winner. The only group that has never been outside the top three.

The leading achievement after Thailand is Indonesia with 10 times. Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam and the Philippines have the same twice.
