He lost 10 strokes for the par5 18 hole, Taichi Kho finished with 83 strokes and +12 points in the first round of The Open 2023.

Opening day 20/7 at Royal Liverpool par71 in Hoylake, Kho went from hole 1, finished half-round was at +8 prize point due to seven bogeys and one double bogey. He kept par the whole 10-16 hole, went to the 17th hole and recorded a birdie to bring his record to +7.

On hole 18, this Hong Kong golfer hit the left side of the fairway, the second hit the bunker on the left side of the green, about 8.2 meters from the flag. On the hosting field of The Open 2023, all bunkers are pot-shaped, different sizes but have in common that the wall in the same direction is higher than the opposite side. That feature became a "common nightmare" at the tournament, in which Warehouse suffered the heaviest damage.

After getting caught in the trap on the second shot, Kho could not get out in the next two shots. On the fifth shot, he decided to put the ball into the wasteland near the stands where the trap wall was low and did the right thing. But on the sixth shot to enter the green, Kho entangled the old bunker with the same position in the previous trap. Therefore, he continued to choose the opposite direction of the green to exit, this time into the stands.

Because that place is considered a temporary obstacle that cannot be moved, Kho is freed to release the ball to an open space, free of penalty. From his new place, he put the ball in 2.7 meters from the hole and then put two shots to finish the job. The 18th hole bogey quintuple drops Kho's score to +12 and the bottom of the board. Not only did Kho have a bottom hole disaster, when the owner of two majors in 15 PGA Tour titles – Justin Thomas lost a total of nine strokes. That bogey quadruple point pushes Thomas to penultimate.

Warehouse to professional golf from February 2023. A month later, he was crowned World City Championship champion, thereby becoming the first Hong Kong (China) golfer to win the cup on the Asian Tour. That victory also brought him the ticket to this year's major The Open.
