The captain of Laos asked to exchange shirts with Van Quyet
Vongchiengkham actively approached Van Quyet and asked to change his shirt. However, the Vietnamese striker had changed into moving clothes, so he did not have a shirt available, so he asked his junior Khuat Van Khang to go to the team bus to get it for him, and stood and talked with the captain of the Laos team while waiting. After that, the two took a commemorative photo and then said goodbye.
"Van Quyet is a good player in Vietnam, so I want to change shirts with him," Vongchiengkham said. "I know Van Quyet from SEA Games many years ago".
In yesterday's match, Van Quyet came on from the bench in the 34th minute, replacing Quang Hai with an injury. Vongchiengkham played the whole match and was the best player on the home side.
Vongchiengkham was born in 1992, at the same time as Van Quyet kicked the 2011 and 2013 SEA Games. Vongchiengkham is playing in Thai League 2 for Trat Club. This midfielder is likened to "Messi Laos" thanks to his outstanding technique and is considered the player leading the young Lao player at the moment.
Despite careful preparation and home advantage, Laos still lost 0-6 to Vietnam. Vongchiengkham is not surprised by this defeat. He sees this as an opportunity to bring a lot of experience to Lao players, mostly the U23s who are preparing for the 2023 SEA Games.
"Vietnam is a very strong team of Southeast Asia," said the captain midfielder. "We have a lot of young players and we need to gain experience against such strong opponents."
In the next turn, Laos has a difficult trip against Malaysia at the "fire pan" of Bukit Jalil on the evening of December 24.
