On the afternoon of July 2nd, Iga Sviatek, the world No.1, lost 4-6, 2-6 to Aliz Konerth in the third round of Wimbledon, breaking the winning streak of 37 wins.

Swiatek set an impressive winning streak at the Qatar Open in February. In the past four months, the Polish tennis player has won six consecutive titles, including the French Open. Swiatek, the youngest player to win Indian Wells and Miami Open in March, is just 21 years old. When Ashleigh Barty announced her retirement, she also became the number one in the world during this time.

But Wimbledon Stadium is not Sviatek's strong suit. The No. 1 seed spent three sets in the second round before losing to Konerth. Swiatek's best result at Wimbledon was in the fourth round last year.

Konerth is 11 years older than Swiatek, but in 2/7 afternoons he played nimbly, kept pushing on the ball, dropped small and got into the net well. Konerth repeated his feat of beating the world's number one rivals at Wimbledon, again on the number one pitch. She beat Serena Williams in the third round in 2014, when the American tennis player was the world number one and the number one candidate for a title like Swiatek this year.

Swiatek admitted he didn't get the best sense of the ball on the grass. She said: "I know that failure may happen in the training class before the game. Although I tried many different ways of playing, I felt uncomfortable on this court. It is difficult for me to adapt to the conditions here."

The 21-year-old says he will take a short break to recover mentally and physically after six months in a row. Her 37-game winning streak is the longest WTA tour since 1990.

Swiatek still holds the top spot in the world with 8,576 points, almost double that of ONS Jabeur, the second place.

Twelve of the top 15 seeds in the women's singles at Wimbledon were eliminated, leaving just three: Anse Jaber, Paula Badosa and Jelena Ostapenco. Besides the cornet, some of the other impressive veterans are Simone Halep, Heather Watson and Carolina Garcia.
