The Portland Trail Blazers scoring crown has a new owner: Damian Lillard
At the game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Oklahoma City Thunder, Damian Lillard hit a new milestone not only in his career but also in team history.
Going into this match, Lillard needs to score 21 points to surpass the legendary Clyde Drexler, becoming the top scorer in Portland Trail Blazers history. Being in high form, the 32-year-old defender easily reached the milestone to become the scoring king of the Oregon state team.
Fans at Paycom Center, home of the Oklahoma City Thunder, had a nice gesture as they stood up to congratulate Damian Lillard.
The organizers at the stadium put the image of the Blazers star on the big screen and the player immediately received huge applause from about 15,000 spectators.
"Winning No. 1 is always a very special feeling," Damian Lillard said after the match. 1st place is an achievement that makes me feel extremely proud."
Damian Lillard scored 28 points all game, including 6 3-pointers (6-12 3PT, 9-17 FG) with 3 rebounds and 6 assists. He had a very difficult time to put the Blazers up in the last minute of the game.
Unfortunately, that effort received a cold water when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander launched a game-winner that brought a 123-121 victory for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Now 32, Damian Lillard has completed 730 games for the Portland Trail Blazers spanning more than 10 years, since the 2012 NBA Draft.
He is the owner of many records related to scoring for the team such as the total number of 3 points, the number of matches scored over 20 points, 30 points, 40 points, 50 points...
After today's achievement, the only thing Damian Lillard lacks in Portland is probably just the championship trophy.
