In the latest match on Saturday 2/9, Brighton easily won the away team Newcastle 3-1 thanks to a hat-trick of 19-year-old striker Evan Ferguson. The Irish striker opened the scoring with a back-kick after goalkeeper Nick Pope caught the ball away. He then cut his heart from more than 20 yards to make it 2-0, then once again hit defender Fabian Schar and redirected into the net five minutes later.
For the first time since September 23, 1995, the tournament witnessed three hat-tricks scored on the same day. At that time, Robbie Fowler, Alan Shearer and Tony Yeboah scored hat-tricks for Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United respectively.
On September 2, 2023, that achievement was repeated after 28 years, when Son, Haaland and Ferguson scored hat-tricks for Tottenham, Man City and Brighton respectively. These are also the first hat-tricks in the 2023-2024 Premier League, when the tournament has reached round four. Last season there were only eight hat-tricks, and Haaland scored half of them.
