USA-Israel Adesonya continued to maintain the middleweight belt by defeating Jared Cannonier with a referee score at UFC 276 on July 3.

With an overwhelming advantage in five games, he won 49-46, 49-46 and 50-45, and Adesanya defended his middleweight title for five consecutive games. As a result, he became the fourth boxer in UFC history to win 12 fights in a single weight class. Those who have previously reached this milestone include welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, former middleweight champion Anderson Silva and former lightweight champion Habib Nurmagomedov.

Adesonya's next opponent is likely to be Alex Pereira-the Brazilian boxer who beat knockout Sean Strickland in the UFC 276 play-off just hours earlier. Pereira has two Taekwondo victories against Adesonya, including a knockout win.

Adsanya is confident to collect debts from his opponent on the octagonal cage. The Nigerian-born New Zealand boxer said after defending his fifth consecutive UFC middleweight title: "That loss was my fault, right-click. That was taekwondo. As I said at the press conference. Before the game, if I see Alex Pereira again, I will let him freeze like Princess Elsa."

Cannonier was in fine form with two straight wins and five of his last six against UFC 276, but failed to win the middleweight title in the fight in Las Vegas on July 3. Champion Adesonya attacked moderately in the first half, waiting for the opponent's loophole. He starts with a quick, dangerously low leg and hits multiple times at the end of the half.

In the second half, Canonier changed tactics while taking the initiative to attack, trying to knock down his opponent. But Adesonya defended brilliantly and continued to score with precision. He also hit Canonier in the head with a right hook before the referee suspended the game for accidentally poking him in the eye.

In the third round, Adesonya continued to keep his distance and made full use of the big stride combined with the right hook. Cannonier has an accurate strike but doesn't push the champion into the corner long enough to make a difference.

In the last two innings, Canonier still couldn't find a new offensive plan. The 38-year-old American boxer aggressively attacked but was unable to control his opponent's movement and counter-attack ability. Adesonya finishes with a low kick before the referee raises his hand for victory.

Despite maintaining an unbeaten record and UFC middleweight title, Adesonya is not satisfied with his performance. He admitted: "Maybe I didn't launch a strong enough blow. Kicking, poking and kicking are fine, but I didn't find strength."
