The Women's World Cup Gold Cup is coming to Vietnam
From February 25, the World Football Federation (FIFA) kicked off the journey to bring the cup to visit 29 countries whose teams have won the right to participate in the 2023 Women's World Cup. Currently, the tournament still has three names waiting to be determined after the series. play-off ends on 22/2.
The cup for the women's world champion was designed in 1998 in the form of a spiral that surrounds a soccer ball. In 2010, the cup had a conical base with the names of the winning teams engraved on the bottom. Cup is 47cm high, weighs 4.6kg, made of sterling silver covered with white and 23 karat gold. The estimated value of the cup is 30,000 USD (about 700 million VND). Meanwhile, the men's gold cup is worth five times as much as it is made of 18 karat gold. However, the female champions will keep the cup, and the male champions will only keep copies.
The first destination of the women's gold cup is Japan on February 25 and 26, then Korea and the Philippines. Vietnam is the fourth destination in this itinerary. After that, the trophy will go to China, Morocco, South Africa, Zambia, Nigeria, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, USA, Jamaica, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Plus Republic of Ireland, Great Britain, Italy, France, Spain.
After a journey across four continents, the women's gold cup will arrive at the venue in Oceania on June 2, then through nine host cities in New Zealand and Australia, respectively.
On July 20, the 2023 Women's World Cup opened with a match between Australia and the Republic of Ireland at the national stadium, in Sydney. The stadium has a capacity of 83,000 seats – the largest in the tournament. FIFA aims to be able to welcome 100,000 people to the opening ceremony to set a record for the tournament.
The 2023 Women's World Cup will last until August 20. Vietnam and the Philippines are two Southeast Asian representatives present at the festival. Vietnam is in Group E with the defending champion USA, the runner-up of the Netherlands and the winner of the play-off pair Portugal - Cameroon on February 22. Meanwhile, the Philippines shares the host group New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland.
