Athletes need to practice transition running and arrange equipment scientifically and neatly to avoid wasting time between swimming and running when competing in aquathlon.

DNSE Aquaman Vietnam 2023 is the first swimming-running duathlon in Vietnam. The second season, the tournament will take place on October 29 at NovaWold Phan Thiet. According to athletes who participated in season one, in addition to practicing the two basic skills of swimming and running, players need to be careful when transitioning.

This is an opportunity for top athletes to widen the gap with their opponents. Other players can take advantage of lowering their heart rate and giving their bodies a break before running. Below are three notes for athletes to transition more skillfully when competing in Aquaman Vietnam.

When switching from the lying position of swimming to standing and running quickly, athletes are easily dizzy and lose balance. To overcome this situation, veteran aquathlon players often practice by combining short runs before entering the pool.

Common exercises are a 100m warm-up swim, a 50m sprint out of the lake, and 20 - 50 squats. Athletes should perform this exercise several times each session to help the body get used to changing competition environments.

"You'll get the feel of a race, honing your ability to run out of the water by incorporating short but intense runs between swims. You can gradually increase the distance each run, depending on depends on the length of the race", according to the Love Swim Run website.

Not only with solo competition content, Aquaman Vietnam also has a relay competition for the Aquaman distance (swim 2km - run 21km). For athletes competing in relays, transitions are a step that requires coordination and rhythm. On competition day, the organizers arrange a separate transition area for the relay competition. Here, athletes give time chips to teammates. Players need to carefully study the location map of the areas to avoid confusion between areas.

Usually, after swimming, the body is exhausted. If you lose your temper or get excited, your heart rate will increase and you will feel more tired. Athletes need to be mentally prepared, calm, and follow the competition strategy. They should not be hasty because they see their opponent is faster.

To have a strong mentality and perform operations smoothly, in addition to practicing transition techniques, you need to practice the habit of arranging and managing equipment such as glasses, swimming caps, shoes, socks... in a proper way. Scientific and easy to remember.

At the DNSE Aquaman Vietnam tournament, the organizers will give each individual a box to hold personal belongings and equipment. Note, items not included in the box will be collected. Athletes are only allowed to change clothes in the area arranged by the organizers. Athletes prepare towels to dry their bodies and feet before wearing running shoes, ensuring their feet feel the most comfortable.

Before entering the race, carefully study the route and signs from the organizers, find the right direction after leaving the country. Kick your legs more in the last 200 m of swimming to get the blood pumping and your leg muscles ready for the run.

Athletes do not stop or stand up until they run aground in shallow water or their fingers have not touched the ground. Because while still underwater, moving by swimming will be faster than running. In particular, the water bottom can be rocky, uneven, and easily slippery, leading to foot injuries.

After leaving the swimming lane, the first thing the athlete needs to do is raise the goggles to their forehead or remove the goggles to see more clearly and check whether the chip is still on their leg or not.

Continuously moving underwater, the body almost runs out of energy. This is the ideal time to lightly refuel "fuel" to ensure enough physical strength until the last kilometers of running. Athletes should prepare energy bars or gels.

Many people feel like they don't need to drink water when swimming. However, it is necessary to drink enough water because high and continuous exercise causes the body to lose a lot of water. prone to cramping when running.

When you're ready, switch your watch from swim mode to run mode and complete the race. The important thing to have the competition results recognized is that the athlete must have their Bib number before starting.

DNSE Aquaman Vietnam 2023 will kick off on October 29. Up to now, this is the only swimming and running biathlon tournament in Vietnam. Combined with competition, athletes can travel, relax and explore the nature and people of the South Central Coast with their families. Ticket sales are now open for the tournament.
