Tien Minh won the national championship for the 15th time
Tien Minh still retains the toughness of the former world number 4, defeating Tien Tuan after only about 40 minutes of play in the final match on the afternoon of September 2. The 22-year-old tennis player is better at smashing the shuttlecock or hitting the shuttlecock, while the senior is strong in dropping shots or judging situations. Tien Minh knows how to abandon the bridge when he feels that Tien Tuan's bridge is too strong and goes out. The match ended with the young player's smash going out.
The 40-year-old's path to the final this year was more difficult, including a defeat against Tien Tuan in the group stage. Previously, Tien Minh overcame Dong Quang Huy and Vu Hai Dang in the qualifying round, to enter Group B with Tien Tuan, Le Minh Son and Phan Phuc Thinh. The player who won the world bronze medal won two weaker opponents, then lost to Tien Tuan but still entered the semi-finals with second place in the group.
In the semi-finals on the evening of September 1, Tien Minh met Vietnam's number one tennis player Nguyen Hai Dang, but he won after only two rounds with a score of 21-18, 21-18. In the other semi-final, Tien Tuan defeated the host Tran Quoc Khanh 22-20, 21-15. Reuniting at the final, Tien Minh successfully reclaimed Tien Tuan's debt to be crowned at the age of 40.
According to the Badminton World Ranking (BWF), Tien Minh is currently the number three player in Vietnam after Nguyen Hai Dang and Le Duc Phat. However, Duc Phat had to meet Hai Dang himself in the qualifying round and stopped before reaching the group stage. Duc Phat was not seeded at the tournament, so he was unlucky to soon encounter Hai Dang.
