Today opens the Women's World Cup 2023
According to Optus Sport, the organizers will hold a short opening ceremony, lasting 15 minutes, after the players of the two teams New Zealand and Norway have finished warming up. Details of this ceremony have not been disclosed by FIFA. The opening ceremony will include impressive performances and showcase the cultural diversity of the two host countries.
Two female artists Mallrats (Australia) and BENEE (New Zealand) will perform the official song of the tournament "Do it Again". FIFA often invites singers from the host country to perform at the opening ceremony in the past. At the 2019 World Cup, host country singer France Jain performed with fellow Canadian Sarah McLachlan.
Security for the opening ceremony became a concern after the shooting at a construction site in Auckland this morning, just before the start of the tournament. The incident near Eden Park raised concerns about safety in New Zealand during the time the teams competed. The organizers and FIFA have not commented on the incident.
Besides the New Zealand - Norway match, the other host country of the 2023 World Cup, Australia, also started today. They meet the Republic of Ireland on the Australian field at 5pm (Hanoi time).
FIFA expects about 100,000 fans to attend the opening two matches. "Fifa's mission is to organize the best women's football World Cup in history this year. Therefore, the fans are an integral part. They will bring color, passion and atmosphere to the stadium. With this in mind, we are allowing 100,000 fans to attend the opening matches. FIFA wants to provide more access to fans with this tournament," FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura said.
This is the first time Vietnam has participated in the World Cup final round, and is in Group E with the US, Netherlands and Portugal. The US is the most successful in the tournament's history with four crowns (including the last two times 2015 and 2019), while the Netherlands is the reigning runner-up.
The tournament takes place from July 20 to August 20, with 32 teams evenly divided into eight groups. In the group stage, the teams play in a round-robin round to calculate the points, select the two high-scoring teams to enter the 1/8 round.
