New coach Ange Postecoglou revealed that from the first meeting, captain striker Harry Kane made it clear to him about his desire to leave Tottenham this summer.

Before Tottenham agreed to sell Kane to Bayern on August 10, his future was a hot topic from the beginning of the transfer window. The English striker is said to not want to go to Bayern to stay at Tottenham, or move to another club in the English Premier League, in order to break the scoring record of legendary Alan Shearer. Kane is currently second in the list of top scorers in the Premier League with 213 goals, just 47 goals short of Shearer's record.

However, Postecoglou revealed Kane had promoted his desire to leave the club since first meeting him a month ago. "The first day I arrived at Tottenham, I spoke with Kane. He is frank, honest and so am I," the Australian coach said on August 12 at a press conference before the Premier League opening match against Brentford. "You can see signs that Kane has decided that if the club agrees to a deal, he will leave."

Postecoglou said both he and the English striker want to settle the deal before Tottenham play Brentford today 13/8. The 57-year-old coach was also not surprised by Kane's departure from the club when he witnessed the progress of the negotiation process.

Postecoglou does not try to convince Kane to stay, because the English striker will only continue to stick with Tottenham, if the club does not reach an agreement on the transfer fee. The new head coach of Tottenham also praised Kane for being professional, not pressured to leave the club and still training normally.

On August 10, Bayern agreed on a fee with Tottenham, including $ 110 million in fixed transfer fees and 22 million in surcharges. "Gray Lobster" also closed personal terms with Kane with a four-year contract, a weekly salary of about 525,000 USD, more than double the level received at Tottenham.

On August 11, despite the fact that President Levy changed a few small terms at the last minute, Kane still left for Munich for a medical checkup as planned. He signed a four-year contract and posed for pictures in a Bayern shirt on August 12, then went to the training ground with his teammates to prepare for the German Super Cup match with RB Leipzig in the evening of the same day, Berlin time.

Kane joined Tottenham's youth system in 2004 and scored 280 goals for the first team. The 30-year-old striker left Tottenham without winning a collective title, having failed in the 2015 Confederations Cup finals, 2021 and the 2019 Champions League final.

According to Postecoglou, being empty-handed does not reduce Kane's contributions to Tottenham and does not speak to the level of this striker. He stressed that leaving the captain striker does not change his vision and project when coming to Tottenham this summer, which is to compete for trophies.

When asked if he had made a list of Kane alternatives, Postecoglou replied: "Things don't work out that way. It's not like my wife gives me a shopping list for bread and milk. for the kids. Tottenham won't buy a striker before the game against Brentford."

The Australian coach added that James Maddison - a rookie worth $ 51 million recruited from Leicester - could help Tottenham solve the scoring process after parting with Kane. "You can't replace Kane with a player and the only position I feel the club needs is a threat in midfield. And that's what Maddison brings," Postecoglou said. "Without Kane, we want the players to share the responsibility of scoring."
