Tottenham missed the opportunity to push Man Utd out of the Top 4

For the first time in the season Man Utd finished the round in the Top 4, thanks to Aston Villa. Unai Emery's army defeated Tottenham in a match where they had more than twice as many shots as their opponent. Argentine midfielder Emiliano scored Hugo Lloris to open the scoring in the 50th minute, before Douglas Luiz scored more for the visitors to seal the victory.

Just before kick-off, striker Son Heung-min said that "the Top 4 are within Tottenham's reach", but their performance did not show that. Coach Antonio Conte expressed regret at the absence of midfielder Dejan Kulusevski because of an injury in the pre-match training session, which caused the home's attack to lack mutations.

Under Emery, Aston Villa maintained alternating winning and losing results. After the loss to Liverpool, they maintained this match with a victory at Tottenham.
