Tottenham refuses to sell Kane to Bayern for the third time
Bayern gave Tottenham one day to decide, when it submitted the offer on August 4. The English team did not respond on time, but then announced that it was not accepted. They had previously turned down a first offer of $77 million in June, then $90 million in July.
According to ESPN, on the evening of August 7, Bayern had an extraordinary internal strategy meeting. There, club leaders considered whether to continue pursuing Kane or not.
Kane only has a contract until June 2024. If not selling the 30-year-old striker this summer, Tottenham will have to accept the loss next year. Kane does not pressure Tottenham to sell, but is ready to join Bayern if the two clubs reach an agreement.
On August 6, Kane scored four goals in a friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1. Tottenham insiders hope Kane can extend his contract, if the 2023-2024 season ends successfully with new coach Ange Postecoglou. The English team will play a friendly against Barca on the evening of August 8, before the start of the season this weekend.
Kane holds the record for scoring 280 goals for Tottenham and 58 goals for England. The 30-year-old striker won the title of 2018 World Cup Top Scorer and Premier League Top Scorer in the 2015-2016, 2016-2017 and 2020-2021 seasons. However, Kane never won a title with the team. His best achievements are reaching the 2015 and 2021 League Cup final, the 2019 Champions League final with Tottenham and the Euro 2021 final with England.
Bayern still lacks a quality striker, after parting with Robert Lewandowski in the summer of 2022. Last season, the player who scored the most for Bayern, Choupo-Moting scored only 17 goals in all competitions. As a result, the Allianz Arena team was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the quarter-finals of the German National Cup, and almost empty-handed if Dortmund won in the final round of the Bundesliga.
This summer, Bayern only recruited defenders Kim Min Jae, Raphael Guerreiro and midfielder Konrad Laimer. In the opposite direction, the Bundesliga champion bid farewell to winger Sadio Mane, goalkeeper Yann Sommer, midfielder Marcel Sabitzer and defender Lucas Hernandez.
